If there’s anything we have learned from season five of The Bear, it’s that change is necessary. The same message was expressed in May, when indie artist and producer Cade Hoppe released “Still Turn This Around.” The warm single touched on the importance of pursuing your dreams, even if doing so seems like a bad idea. You just never know what can happen, and sometimes, that mystery propels you forward instead of backward. With this mystery came a sense of optimism, making “Still Turn This Around” an engaging lead single from Cade’s upcoming album, Safer at a Distance. Cade continues to spread this feeling with the follow-up single, “Lake Michigan.”
On “Lake Michigan,” Cade comes to the realization that even when life doesn’t go according to plan, it should not be dismissed. Guided by acoustic guitar, drums, keys, and strings, Cade sings, “So, I pointed to Lake Michigan / And said that kinda looks like the Pacific Ocean / And we drove to the water.” Basically, if you wanted the ocean but got the lake, you still have a nice view. Overall, “Lake Michigan” captures the nostalgia and innocence of growing up and finding your way, so if listeners are doing the same this summer, they should add this to their summer playlist.
About “Lake Michigan,” Cade shares,
“It’s a story about driving from the East Coast to the West Coast, hoping to make it to the Pacific Ocean. But life never goes as planned, and sometimes, you’ve got to make peace with only ever making it to Lake Michigan—after all, they basically look the same.”
