Welsh pop-punk icons Neck Deep made their return with brand new single “You Should See Me Now” yesterday, May 21st. The band surprised fans on social media with a small snippet announcing the release of the track just two days before its eventual drop.
It’s an uplifting release that feels like the perfect embodiment of a classic Neck Deep song from start to finish. When asked about the meaning behind the new track, lead vocalist Ben Barlow explained:
“‘You Should See Me Now’ is a song about hard work, self-belief, the struggle through adversity and proving people wrong. As a band we’ve always been pretty humble and shied away from too much self-aggrandisement, but this felt like a good way of showing a little pride, and hopefully people can relate to that too.”
The track is extremely catchy and will be a brilliant addition to summer playlists everywhere. It’s a testament to the band’s growing presence and dedication to the pop-punk scene they’ve been a part of since 2012. Neck Deep’s pride for how far they’ve come shines through in the lyrics as the song powers on. “The sacrifice it takes, yeah, I hope I made you proud / And if you got a dream, don’t let ’em get you down” are just two lines that radiate the resilience and unrelenting drive that have been a piece of their evolution as artists since day one.
The band is also seemingly teasing a deluxe edition of their 2024 self-titled album, with Barlow sharing:
“It was a song we’ve had in the bank for a long time and really should’ve been on the album in the first place, so it’s nice to have such a strong bonus track to be featured on something cool to be announced soon.”
Neck Deep are set to perform at the UK’s Slam Dunk Festival in Hatfield and Leeds this weekend on May 24th and 25th. They will also be hitting North America on tour opening for The Story So Far alongside Origami Angel and Pain of Truth this September and October.
