Corporate law dropout turned songwriter Julia Adrian released her latest cathartic single, “Lag Time,” a clever track exploring the frustrations of being in a one-sided relationship with your significant other.
The new single is a standout heartbreak track for pop music lovers who have ever felt like they were waiting for their partner to catch up and start putting in the effort.
The Nashville-based singer-songwriter defines “Lag Time” as “the time between when you explain a man’s feelings to him and when he admits it to himself.” You can see this sentiment in the lyrics: “Should I wait around, till you figure it out / Between when you deny and when you apologize / Hey, no it’s fine, I’ve got patience and I / Know you tend to fall behind / You can’t help it, I get it, it’s just your lag time.”
Adrian shares,
“Anyone who’s ever waited around for someone to grow or change will understand the sentiment of this song. The percussion is infectious, the bridge is a folk-inspired change-up, and the lyrics have realism mixed with a bit of humor.”
This is the second single off Julia Adrian’s upcoming sophomore EP, what’s the harm?, following the title track’s release in August. The 80s-inspired track, accompanied by “Lag Time,” opens the doors to the future of Adrian’s sound.
“Lag Time” is out now, available on streaming platforms.
