Julia Adrian teases sophomore EP with self titled single “what’s the harm?”

Date:

Nashville-based Julia Adrian has released “what’s the harm?,” the first single off her upcoming sophomore EP, what’s the harm?. An indie-pop track that combines bright synths with acoustic guitars, “what’s the harm?” feels like the perfect blend of 80’s pop and country, bringing to mind Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan.

In the song, Adrian explores the idea of “faking till you make it” in order to get through a breakup, imagining just how bad her ex must be doing without her. In the verses, she sings “Bet you’re drafting, crafting a paragraph / But you’re too nervous to send it through / You can’t help but soak in the aftermath / Even if you’re happy, I just assume that,” playfully reminding us in the end that it’s all just in her head.

The track closes on a high note with the “outro,” as she strips down the nostalgic instrumentation to chant “I’m so goddamn carefree,” before bringing it back and elevating it with an electric guitar solo.

Originally from Boston, MA, Julia Adrian has a unique background working in corporate law – her Instagram bio reads “corporate law dropout turned songwriter.” The singer seems to masterfully incorporate her sense of humor into her artistry, making her music feel both genuine and fun, and her new single is the perfect example.
