BrooklynVegan, Alternative Press, Revolver, and Goldmine have all been hit with massive layoffs by their parent company, Veeps, after nearly three years of signing over with them. Nearly all staff from each publication appear to have been laid off as of August 4.
Veeps’ co-founders Benji and Joel Madden, who also created the American pop-rock band Good Charlotte, operated the company as a ticketed livestream platform. Publicist Jacob Daneman stated on X after the layoffs at BrooklynVegan,
“RIP Brooklyn Vegan. Absolutely bewildering. Thinking of all the great people there and the unparalleled music coverage they’ve done over the years. Utterly unceremonious and moronic actions by Veeps.”
All of the music publications have been working in the rock genre community since the 1970s, with Goldmine and, up to as recently as 2004, BrooklynVegan at the peak of the era’s rock revival in New York. A third brand, Project M, a digital media and e-commerce company, had also listed all of the publications among its portfolio for varying periods until Veeps took over.
