Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:
——
LANY, “When Did You Stop Loving Me?” – LANY has re-opened the beautifully tragic world of their sixth studio album with the release of Soft 2. The expanded edition features five new tracks that build upon the meaningful foundation of its initial 10-track release, which arrived last October via Virgin Music. The alt-pop duo further emphasizes that there’s power in survival and courage in the face of life’s most devastating moments with each new addition to this record.
– Amber Bintliff
——
Bleachers, “dirty wedding dress” – Written by Jack Antonoff about his wedding night and the idea of letting the right people in, the track reads like a chaotic celebration of love in the middle of the madness. He sings: “So we got married that August / And the neighbors all lost their mind / We had to board up all the windows and shoot out the drones / We took the sadness out from Saturday night.”
– Hannah Croteau
——
Ama and Brent Faiyaz, “Need It Bad” – In “Need It Bad,” Faiyaz opens the track with smooth vocals about the girl he meets and how much he misses her. He’s accompanied by 808s while he fantasizes about spending time with her at night and making breakfast the next morning. That all changes in the middle of the song as he becomes obsessive: “What you want, baby girl, where you at? / I’m looking for you right now, I need it bad / I’ve been calling, call me back (oh).”
– Sanjeev Wignarajah
——
Sub Urban, “Hiraeth” – Exploring a deep longing for what may never have been, “Hiraeth” is a playfully disconcerting track that continues Sub Urban’s genre-bending path and theatrical sound. The new song delivers an expectedly unexpected side of Sub Urban’s discography, mixing reverse sounds, beat skips, and a dark, alluring vibe that is simply enchanting.
