Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:
Normani, “Big Boy” – Normani‘s “Big Boy,” a collaboration with singer and rapper Starrah, is filled to the brim with a funky horn section and thrumming bass line. Normani declares her dominance early on. The song makes reference to her Southern roots through mentions of Southern rap duo Outkast’s André 3000 and Big Boi (not so coincidental considering the song’s title) and rapper-producer Pimp C.
– Avery Heeringa
——
Marlin Beach, “Springsteen” – Lucas Adlhoch, professionally known as Marlin Beach, is a songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist focused on creating beachy yacht rock anthems. His latest release, “Springsteen”, is a catchy ballad reflecting on a past relationship. “Springsteen” is about a painful breakup between partners. Driving drums and playful synths support the chorus detailing the night they separated.
– Emma Celenza
——
Alfie Templeman, “Radiosoul” – The title track [of Templeman’s new album], “Radiosoul”, delves into the profound impact of social media on mental health. Templeman’s falsetto soars over a rich, textured production, inviting listeners into a dreamy, soft-psychedelic journey. This track is a testament to Templeman’s growth as an artist, blending introspective lyrics with infectious hooks.
– Joshua Madsen

HOMESHAKE, “Empty Lot” – “Empty Lot”, inspired by a dream Sagar had in a hotel, explores how emotions are stored within dreams. The video illustrates Sagar’s concept, opening with Sagar abandoning his car in an empty parking lot. Eventually he wanders into a limousine that brings him to a dreamlike, psychedelic experience.
– Ashley Robinson
——
Surf Trash, “Healin the Feelin” – “Healin the Feelin” tells the story of someone trying to feel better about being alone after being with someone for so long. While the lyrics subtly hint at a breakup or falling out, the song itself is more focused on the positives. This person is happy to have time to themselves and to move on with their life. The instrumentals feed into the idea of moving on, with an upbeat and catchy rhythm that carries both the song and the narrator on to better days.
