MarMar’s “Walking on Water” featuring SMOORIBA sets a precedent for new EP

Date:

“Walking on Water” by MarMar featuring SMOORIBA was released Wednesday, May 14. MarMar, a French-American producer, collaborated with the U.K.-based artist to create the focus track for his new EP, The Other Side, which is available now.

The song is a lo-fi bedroom pop track that blends MarMar’s signature soundscapes with SMOORIBA’s emotive vocals. It was inspired by a bus ride from London to France following one of MarMar’s shows. The journey included traffic jams, road rage, and long border checks. Amid the chaos, he caught sight of the White Cliffs of Dover glowing in the night. “It reminded me that beauty can show up in the most unexpected places,” he said.

“I  grew up seeing pictures of this place, and now I was crammed onto a smelly bus with no intention of seeing something like that, just trying to get home, and suddenly being amazed at what was around me. While we crossed the water, I opened my laptop in this weird ferry cafeteria at like 1 a.m. and started building the track.”

MarMar described his newest EP as a rediscovery of his artistry. It marks the first time in the past years he’s been able to create without pressure or expectations—just for the love of making music. The project reflects where he is now and where he’s headed.
