Laura Evans has found her “Superman” on new single

Date:

When Welsh singer-songwriter Laura Evans released her debut album, State of Mind, in 2022, Classic Rock Magazine compared her to a “modern-day Stevie Nicks.” She continued to receive praise from notable platforms like Spotify, BBC Radio 2’s The Blues Show, and BBC Radio Wales, all of which solidified her as a rising blues artist in the UK. However, Laura’s music defies genres, as she is able to seamlessly blend soul, blues, country, pop, and rock together for one dynamic and distinctive sound. She ended last year on a high note as BBC Radio 2 added her music to their playlist, which is rare for an independent artist such as Laura to accomplish. Her latest singles “Honest” and “Nobody Loves Me Like You,” released earlier this year, were also added into rotation on BBC Radio 2. With her upcoming sophomore album, Out of the Dark, dropping on October 17, Laura’s fans—who have streamed her music 3M times on Spotify alone—have about two months to go before jumping into this next chapter with her. For now, Laura gives them the album’s latest single, “Superman.”

With “Superman,” Laura holds onto a supernatural type of love. Throughout the track, she recounts the days when she fell for her now husband, comparing their relationship to that of Lois Lane and Superman. She sings, “Take my hand, we can fly away / Baby, I could be your Lois Lane / I’m gonna hold on tight, fight your kryptonite / ‘Cause you make my world a better place / And I don’t know if this was part of your plan / But I think you might be my Superman.” Her warm pop vocals stand out against the cool guitar strumming we hear in the verses, and then they take off to new heights in the choruses. There, we hear a crowd-pleasing country-rock groove and catchy, bluesy melodies that will stay in your head for days.

Telling us about the inspiration behind “Superman,” Laura reveals,

“The melody and the idea for ‘Superman’ came pretty quickly, and it was just a joy to write. When I first met my husband back in 2020, my friends used to call him ‘Superman’ because he kind of looked like Clark Kent. That memory stuck with me!

“I’ve written a lot of sad songs over the years, but this felt like the right moment to write something joyful, an upbeat love song that everyone can connect with.”

In November, Laura will head out on her biggest UK headline tour to date. It will kick off on November 6 in Cardiff, make its way to Manchester, Sheffield, and Kent, and then conclude in London on November 30. Tickets and more information can be found here.
