Keeper releases honest new single “Upside Down” featuring Sleeping With Sirens’ Kellin Quinn

Date:

UK-based alternative artist Keeper teamed up with Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens on his new single “Upside Down.” Following previously released singles “Alright // Too Slow” and “Taste-It,” this new track continues to navigate the uncertainty and full-fledged emotions of a breakup.

“Upside Down” explores the immediate aftershock of a brutal separation with Keeper’s classic fusion of hyperpop and early 2000s pop punk. The lyrics showcase Keeper and Quinn experiencing a downward spiral after the end of this relationship. With lyrics like “You’ve pushed me to the point, and there’s no return” and “Wish I grew a spine / Ran around in circles, baby / Could’ve fooled me twice,” the pair express their frustration and hurt amidst such a tough breakup. Speaking on the track, Keeper shares,

“If I think about it, writing this song marked a new beginning for Keeper. I’ve been blending genres for a while now, but usually in clearly defined sections. This was the first time where I tried to fuse everything together seamlessly. It inspired everything else that followed – without Upside Down, the rest of the new material just simply wouldn’t exist. It’s the perfect blend of what Keeper has been and what Keeper is becoming.”

The track’s heavy pop-punk influence and unique glitchy pop elements make for an interesting combination that truly works well together. Enlisting Quinn for this collaboration also felt like a dream come true for Keeper. He shares,

“Working with Kellin was incredible. I sent him a wishful DM and heard nothing back for weeks, until one day I noticed a follow and a message from him. Not only did he love the track, but he put down a verse in no time at all. Within a week, it’s being mixed – and just like that, on a random day in May, I’m listening to the first mix of my song featuring a guy that I’ve been listening to since I was a teenager. Insane.”

Keeper also wrote and recorded the song with Jon Cass of As Everything Unfolds and had Tom Connolly of Dream State contribute some stellar drum parts. “Upside Down” is a refreshing pop punk track that blends Quinn’s classic emotionally charged screams with Keeper’s unique style and honest storytelling.
