“Heart By Heart” is Joe Jonas’ heart-wrenching single, detailing the nostalgia of a past relationship, with an equally beautiful music video. Directed by Anthony Mandler (Lana Del Rey, Shawn Mendes), the video begins on Bleecker Street in New York City, as we see Jonas running into someone in the street. Later, as the video unfolds, we are met with their story – their meet-cute, falling for one another, and their eventual breakup. In between the narrative, we see Jonas on his way to play the song, where his former lover listens from the back of the venue.
Handheld Super 8 montages of the couple filming one another add a gritty and homemade texture to the video, really immersing the viewer in this relationship. It’s revealed later on that the girl has already found someone new, and Jonas has found within himself and to her, a promise.
“Heart By Heart” is track five on Joe Jonas’ highly anticipated solo album Music For People Who Believe In Love, which is out now. Billboard writes,
“Jonas lands on a shimmery pop sound that synthesizes a wide array of influences, from garage-rock to alt-pop to ’90s country, while singing about navigating life’s uncertainties and finding gratitude amid loss.”
