Jeremy Zucker is as vulnerable as ever in this new body of work. On his third full-length project, which will arrive on streaming platforms this summer, the 29-year-old singer-songwriter delivers an emotional and intimate sound that is both dreamy and nostalgic.

Nearly a year after releasing the third installment of his beloved brent series, brent iii, with Chelsea Cutler, the new album, Garden State, is scheduled for release on Aug. 22.

Preserve Garden State here.

“hometown,” italized in all lowercase, sees Zucker face the disillusionment, resentment and emotional distance of someone leaving behind their past. He stings with a resentment he can’t shake, with lines like, “Oh, right, bet it feels nice / Turning your back on your whole damn life…” and ““A little too good for your old hometown.”

The song explores what it means to leave your hometown and see it in a new light, but it’s the new album that fully embodies those notions and throws Zucker into the ups and downs of leaving his New Jersey hometown across 14 tracks. Between finding love, gaining freedom and what it means to grow up and live out your dreams, Garden State sees Zucker confront memories of his childhood in New Jersey and deal with those feelings of looking back in a new light.

“It’s all about how I never quite felt at home, how I had to leave to find myself and how coming backmade it all make sense. There’s a lot in here that I’ve never touched on in my music. I’m not the same person I was when I started this journey, and I;m genuinely honored to be able to share it with you all.”
