Kiwi/Dutch singer-songwriter Mila Vandelle has released a beautifully serenading song titled “July Eleven.” Mila draws from many sources of inspiration, ranging from the raw storytelling fables of Holly Humberstone and the soulfulness of Olivia Dean to the emotional depths of Billie Eilish, blending warm, atmospheric pop with honest lyricism.
The single was produced by renowned New Zealand producers Luan Meaker and EDYONTHEBEAT. In regards to the song itself, Mila had this to say:
” ‘July Eleven’ lives in the space between heartbreak and healing. it holds the memory of someone i loved, and the ache of trying to let go of something i knew wasn’t right but couldn’t quite place.”
Within the lyrics, listeners understand completely the feelings the artist intended. It’s a vulnerable reflection on letting go; a message of “I see you, and I hear you” to all who haven’t felt seen in their emotions of heartbreak, hurt, betrayal, and the struggle of learning to heal from it.
Mila also shares a curated playlist on her streaming services for fans entitled “After the Eleventh.” Posted to her Instagram page, the post‘s caption describes the inspiration behind the self-curated playlist as “a playlist of songs that carried me through heartbreak and the ones I’m loving now,” with a variety of artists including from sombr, Lizzy McAlpine, Ariana Grande, and more.
