Get his merch up in these stores: bbno$ releases new song and music video for “hot topic”

Date:

Your favorite alternative merch store welcomes a new anthem! Canadian rapper and international star bbno$ released his latest single “hot topic” just a week after announcing his self-titled album, set to debut on Oct. 17.

In true bbno$ fashion, “hot topic” is a humorous track riddled with groovy beats, innuendos, and pop culture references atop what he coins as “oxymoronic rap” with an interesting twist on 70s/disco influence. He mentions well-known icons in Britney Spears’ “Toxic,” Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer,” English producer Fred Again, and President Barack Obama’s signature “Yes We Can” slogan.

The vibe of the song contrasts with the visuals of the music video, and would likely have never played in the fashion store of the same name at its inception in the 90s (In 2025, one can only hope).

bbno$ is known for whimsical and nonsensical music videos, intended to give viewers a laugh. The world-renowned “It boy” dons an all-black outfit with goth makeup, joined by other Hot Topic regulars as they dance through the streets of the city. He escapes his dad’s disapproval in favor of the cybergoth dance party of his dreams before he is finally embraced by his style. This video is heartwarming… in an unusual, emo sort of way.

One of the most unexpected crossovers was the appearance of content creator and gaming YouTuber JSchlatt (and his mutton chops), who played the rapper’s father in the music video, despite being about five years younger than bbno$. The pair embark on a journey of self-discovery, as the father embraces the edgy person that his son really is meant to be.

The music video features several prevalent online personalities, including Haeven Ennen, Seth Haslip, Zander Small, and Anthony Po, among others as bbno$ sings, “Get my merch up in these stores, can’t help it, I’m a hot topic.”

The “edamame” singer is known for his online collaborations, often appearing to be at all ends of the world at once. Most notably, he is known for frequent “side quests” with the likes of American rapper Yung Gravy and YouTuber and streamer Cr1TiKaL.

bbno$ is sure to put the “sex in sexy” on his upcoming self-titled album, available to pre-save here.

bbno$ will embark on the third leg of his It’s Pronounced Baby No Money world tour, performing in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and Brazil this fall, followed by his recently announced The Internet Explorer World Tour, which will begin in North America before moving to the UK/EU in spring.
