Best known for his infectious alt-pop tracks, South African-born musician CON THE ARTIST is back with another harmonious single, “Only You.”
Building his musical prowess with an impressive resume of works, from being featured on Netflix (The Order), to Apple TV, Disney+, ABC Family (Good Trouble), Lifetime (Story of a Girl), and HBO Canada, this singer-songwriter makes music that’ll stick with you long after the first listen.
In a press release, he reveals that the inspiration for the new single, “Only You,” occurred after an argument with a loved one, which turned out to be a monumental point of clarity. It’s a song about choosing someone even when a relationship isn’t perfect:
“I realized that if I was going to argue or fight with anyone, I was glad it was with her…All the messy parts of life — I was grateful they were with that person. If I was going to smile, cry, love, or break… it would only be for her. That perspective carries directly into the writing. Rather than idealizing romance, ‘Only You’ grounds devotion in lived experience, with lines like ‘Rather be in trenches with you’ and ‘if I break I’m breaking for you’ emphasizing partnership through difficulty. “
