Frankie Orella releases new single, “Blow Up My Life”

Date:

Nashville native Frankie Orella has released the first single, “Blow Up My Life,” an anxious tune about self-sabotage and envy, ahead of her upcoming EP. Listeners of Gracie Abrams and BLÜ EYES will enjoy the confessional lyrics against “Blow Up My Life”‘s bubbly music and instrumentation.

The instrumentation has a slow but organic build throughout the song as Orella slowly spirals in her intrusive thoughts. A rubber guitar starts off the song before some nicely tucked away synths and keys start to appear. The sparkly sounds sit in the back of the song but give the single its infectious poppy sound. While the use of this style may sound out of place for the troubled lyrics, the catchy pop energy complements Orella’s vocal delivery. There is a break in this faster pacing in the bridge as a filter hangs over a slower rhythm. In a time of quick and too-soon-over songs, Orella knows how to grow her music and let the sound progress naturally.

In the lyrics, Orella offers an introspective look into her own troubles and the thoughts that haunt her every move. In the second verse’s “all the boys I could’ve kissed at parties missed” highlights the distorted nostalgia of what could have been that follows the singer-songwriter. The lyrics are very relatable, with the chorus’s “I worry the bad 10% might be the real me,” showing Orella’s growing consummation of self-sabotage.

“Blow Up My Life” gives a great first tease into Frankie Orella’s latest project, which is expected to release over the next 6 months. You can listen to “Blow Up My Life” now wherever you find you music.
