Felicity feels “Half Sad” on cathartic new single

Date:

There’s a fire inside of Felicity that runs wild in her music. It’s there in the vocals, in the lyrics, and it’s in the overall emotion that each song emits. Of course, it’s also in Felicity’s soul, as the Australian born, Nashville-based artist does not know when to stop—nor does she want to. Last year, she released her debut EP, You Take Me To Dinner But You’ll Never Feed My Soul, which contained a personal collection of moving tracks that quickly caught on with fans. Felicity also went on tour last year to connect with these fans and build her reputation as a fiery alt-pop artist. All of her work pays off, but it never stops. So far this year, Felicity has released “3 Martinis” and “I Know Why They’re Screaming,” which earned placement on Spotify’s ‘Pop n’ Fresh’ and Apple Music’s ‘New in Alternative.’ She continues this hot-streak with “Half Sad.”

On “Half Sad,” Felicity speaks to her doubtful, judgmental side. She reveals that she does not have it all together, and she does not even have a firm grasp on herself. She sings, “Who’s that looking at me in the passenger seat? / Eyes black and she kind of looks a little like me / Half sad, full faded like her low-rise jeans / Lo-fi dreams.” Even though the lyrics are pensive and glum, there is enough life in the track that gives it a spark. The skittering beats, sassy delivery of the lyrics, and Felicity’s soulful vocals make it a solid offering and a cathartic moment for anyone who can relate.

About “Half Sad,” Felicity shares,

“I don’t ever feel super happy, but I’m never on the brink of hopelessness. I feel numb a lot. There’s so much inspiration lyrically when you’re going through it—being a little depressed and numb inside. Everyone I talk to is on the same shit, on the newest SSRI and feeling a little dead inside…and I’m like, same girl, here’s the soundtrack.”
