Cecilia Castleman releases debut single “Lonely Nights”

Date:

Inspired by artists like the Beatles, Brian Wilson, and Fleetwood Mac, Cecilia Castleman started making music as a way to cope.  Picking up a guitar and a pen, she soon created timeless tracks that would catch the attention of Glassnote Records.  She just inked her first record deal with the indie label, and is well on her way to becoming like her idols.  With the support of Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, her first single “Lonely Nights” makes for a solid introduction to the 21-year-old, as it showcases her sharp songwriting skills.

On “Lonely Nights,” Cecelia confronts the detached feelings brought on by loneliness.  Over acoustic guitar and gentle percussion, her angelic vocals touch on a fear that “only lasts a moment” before the sadness kicks in.  As Cecilia tries to offset her feelings, she also calls out someone who is trying to do the same, singing, “When you’re all alone and you’re wondering why / With your liar’s mouth, it’s the same as mine / Well I’ve had a few and you’ve had a few / Lonely nights.”  You can check it out in the video below.

About the track, Cecilia explains,

It’s about coming to terms with loneliness.  Everybody has a bit of loneliness in them, the end of the night rolls around and everything’s quiet, the other side of the bed is empty, the only coat on the hanger is yours, the only coffee cup on the table is yours.  I used to say, ‘I love being alone, I thrive being alone,’ and creatively that’s true, but I think I was trying to convince myself that I didn’t need anyone, which in fact I do.

You can listen to “Lonely Nights” on platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and Apple Music.
