New York’s Evan Kreutz has released a new single titled “deja vu,” a punk-rock track about feeling stuck and restless at the same time. It is one of two new songs included in the deluxe version of his debut EP, look what i can do.
When he announced the release on Instagram, the singer-songwriter said, “This song is for punk rockers at their desk job.” Indeed, driven by raw guitars and drums, “deja vu” carries the high-energy, tongue-in-cheek quality of 1990s and 2000s rock music from bands like blink-182 and Green Day.
Lyrically, “deja vu” captures the moment of realization when life becomes monotonous, and every experience feels familiar. On the bridge, he dares to break free from the feeling, singing “You only got this one life / But I’m too scared to know / All the memories we’d write / Get off the telephone.”
Since debuting in 2022 with “What A Hole,” Kreutz has consistently put out music that feels deeply introspective and relatable, whether writing about heartbreak, joy, or existential crises. He is quickly making a name for himself in the alternative rock scene — his songs have amassed hundreds of thousands of streams on Spotify alone.
