Ellur bears her heart in new single “Your Dog”

Date:

Yorkshire indie artist Ellur teases her upcoming EP with her newest single “Your Dog.” The song is introspective and lyrically layered. The theme of the song seems to cover an age gap in a relationship in which a partner was unfaithful. The vulnerability within the song is apparent and transcendent.

There’s an entire story behind the lyrics of the track. The song opens explaining the start and background of the relationship before getting into all the troubles faced. The lyrics go “You were an opening / And I needed someone to call home / Running straight into your arms / You made me feel like a dog / you made me feel like your dog.” The incredibly candid depiction throughout the lyrics adds to the level of emotion that’s bound to resonate within the audience.

The melody is rather simple with a more acoustic vibe. There’s a guitar that can be heard throughout with a drum beat that comes in later during the chorus. However, the simplistic melody allows the lyrics and story to take center stage beautifully in the song. There was no need for dramatics in the beats or instrumentals because Ellur takes you there with her voice. Having a slower beat lets her voice lead the listener through the song. Her tonal quality is also very rich; you can hear the emotion in every word, similar to the style of Maggie Rogers. “Your Dog” has definitely earned its spot in the indie rock/pop scene.
