Drew Schueler gets vulnerable in new ballad “I Thought By Now”

Date:

Nashville-based Drew Schueler has shared a new single titled “I Thought By Now,” an emotional ballad about realizing that life hasn’t exactly gone according to plan. It is the final track to be released from his EP, Vulnerable For Once.

In the acoustic guitar-driven song, Schueler opens up about following his childhood dream and how that has affected his life as an adult. In the verses, he sings, “Since I was a kid / I knew what I was meant for / It seemed like a gift / But it’s a double-edged sword / Now I’m all grown / Feel bad for my wife / She pays for our home / While I’m counting likes.”

In the chorus, the singer-songwriter comes to the painful realization that most young adults face at one point, as he confesses, “I thought by now I’d have more figured out.” With deeply personal lyricism, he creates an instant connection with the listener. After all, no matter the career path someone chooses, there is no guarantee it will unfold the way they envision.

In an Instagram post, Schueler revealed the hopeful meaning behind the song, saying:

“The song may center around my self-doubt and insecurities, but it ends with my wife/manager/best friend telling me ‘You’re meant for this’, which is all I need to hear. I may not have it all figured out, but I know I’m meant for this.”
