Colbie Caillat and Mitchell Tenpenny’s new duet “Realize” rejuvenates the 2007 hit

Date:

Colbie Caillat’s popular newly-in-love anthem “Realize” has been revitalized in a new version that includes Mitchell Tenpenny’s impassioned voice. The new song has released alongside a music video featuring both artists.

Caillat’s best-known hits include the earworm “Bubbly” and duet with Jason Mraz, “Lucky.” Her voice is made for wholesome duets and instills a warm feeling unto our ears and hearts.

The duet version of “Realize” comes following the release of another country pop duet with Russell Dickerson last month. Caillat leaning into country is boding well for her success in the current musical era that celebrates country western sounds. “Realize” previously garnered immense success with its 2007 release on Caillat’s triple-platinum album COCO. The new version’s production captures Caillat’s voice in a more tender sense.

In the tail end of the song, there’s a beautiful stripped-back moment of Caillat singing the refrain, honest and poised, and soon Tenpenny joins in, harmonizing perfectly, letting the listener poeticize whatever they’re doing as the song plays. As the song ends with ad lib harmonies, the listener feels like they’re driving in their car, windows down, summer breeze abounds. Caillat’s voice paired with Tenpenny’s creates a vocal experience that’s smooth like butter. The two 21st century-defining stars team up for a song greater than the sum of their parts.

“Realize” is out now on all platforms.
