Chance the Rapper recently hosted “Writings on the Wall,” an immersive multi-sensory art experience in New Orleans. Held at the Black-owned art space StudioBe, the event offered fans a unique opportunity to connect with Chance’s new unreleased music on a profound level.
Following the success of Writings on the Wall events in cities like Chicago and Atlanta, Chance the Rapper is excited to bring the experience to Washington, D.C., on August 8th. Fans in D.C. can anticipate the same intimate and engaging experience, with more dates and locations to be announced soon.
Each attendee is equipped with headphones and settled into oversized bean bags for an intimate listening session, where they were enveloped by the music and lyrics of 12 unheard tracks. Lyrics and videos were projected on the walls, creating a dynamic visual accompaniment. The experience was enhanced by the powerful vibrations from four SRX918S 2,500-watt 18-inch subwoofers, ensuring that attendees could physically feel the music.
Chance’s aim was to create a deeply immersive environment, and to that end, phones were not allowed, encouraging attendees to be fully present. Fans were also given notebooks to jot down their thoughts and questions, which were later addressed in a live Q&A session with Chance, providing deeper insights into his new tracks.
Chance’s Star Line project, along with its interdisciplinary companion Star Line Gallery, continues to push the boundaries of art and music. The project features collaborative works with esteemed fine artists from The Continent and The Diaspora, redefining the concept of album art and presenting compelling conversations on Black life. Notable works include “Child of God” with Gabonese artist Naïla Opiangah, “A Bar About A Bar” with Chicago-based painter Nikko Washington and filmmaker Troy Gueno, “The Highs & The Lows” featuring Joey Bada$$ and Gabonese photographer Yannis Davy Guibinga, and “YAH Know” with Chicago-based visual artist Mía Lee. These pieces have been showcased at prestigious art institutions worldwide, including Expo Chicago, Art Basel, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, The Art Institute of Chicago, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles.
With “Writings on the Wall” and the Star Line project, Chance the Rapper continues to innovate and inspire, creating experiences that transcend traditional boundaries and deeply resonate with fans and art lovers alike.
