Cavetown announces new album ‘Running With Scissors’ out in January and releases new single

Singer, songwriter and producer Cavetown — the moniker of Robin Skinner — has announced his brand-new album, Running With Scissors, due out next year.

According to a release, the forthcoming album is due out Jan. 16 via Futures Music Group. Alongside the announcement, Cavetown released the single, “Rainbow Gal,” which follows previous track, “Baby Spoon.”

The track, built on 8-bit textures and glitchy vocals, is inspired by a relationship Cavetown has experienced.

“‘Rainbow Gal’ is like a light display turned into a song, she brings all the color into my life,” he says.

Per a release, Running With Scissors, sees the singer face drastic life changes, including falling in love with someone he wants to begin a family with the birth of his first sibling. They reportedly have a 26-year age gap, the release said. With intimidate storytelling, Cavetown explores anxiety, self-doubt and being a trans artist, all while facing adulthood, family, memory and self-parenting.

I WANTED TO MAKE MYSELF SOUND MORE BRAVE,” HE SAYS. “AND I WANTED TO IMPRESS PEOPLE WITH MY VOICE, LIKE, ‘WOW, HE’S ACTUALLY GOT SOME PIPES.’”
