Fans of British pop sensation Cat Burns have been holding their breath waiting for an album announcement for months, and they can finally exhale. Last week, after months of teasers and snippets, Burns announced her sophomore album, How To Be Human, set to release on Oct. 31. Sharing about the album on Instagram, she said:
“It’s honest, it’s uncomfortable, and it’s really scary for me to release, but that is true art to me. if it doesn’t cost you anything then what’s the point?”
How To Be Human has bloomed from an impossibly difficult season for Burns. She suffered the loss of her grandfather in the spring of 2024 while simultaneously going through a breakup. She documented her pain with music, hoping to shed light on just how hard it was.
The day before announcing How To Be Human, Burns released “All This Love,” the second single from the album, which has already earned over 1 million streams on Spotify. It’s a tender, heartfelt ode to love, and a graceful reminder that “grief is love with no place to go.” The track opens with a sample of Burns’ emotional eulogy to her grandfather, and bursts forth into a joyful, celebratory chorus. Her writing is so raw and honest, and she delivers it with soul and delicate strength. Paired with the album’s first syrupy pop single, “GIRLS!,” it seems listeners are in for a beautiful ride, spanning the full spectrum of human emotion.
“All This Love” is available to stream wherever you listen to music, and you can pre-save How To Be Human here.
