We are nearly a month away from the release of Caroline Romano’s upcoming EP, How The Good Girls Die. Over the last year, Caroline has slowly introduced fans to the project through the release of singles like “Body Bag” and “Born to Want More.” Like the rest of her music, these singles capture those sensitive moments of growing up, with Caroline sharing these moments through an unfiltered lens. Before How The Good Girls Die arrives on February 21, Caroline is sharing yet another single from what the press describes as a “boundary-breaking” project, giving us “IDK These Days.”
With “IDK These Days,” Caroline tries to uncover the source of her unwelcome rage and angst. Her thoughts are accompanied by lively acoustic guitar lines, giving the track an honest and vulnerable edge. Meanwhile, Caroline sings, “I know it’s so unbecoming / I don’t think it’s just a phase / I thought it was passing through but now I fear it’s here to stay,” openly confronting her feelings. Each line builds in intensity as the mania of finding out which moments broke her starts to overtake her. In the end, she has to admit, “You ask me how I am and I say, ‘I don’t know these days.’”
About the single, Caroline explains,
“I wrote ‘IDK These Days’ during a period of inexplicable anger and frustration. It’s about the little things—like snow and traffic—that used to be trivial, suddenly becoming overwhelming. It’s that unsettling feeling when even your mom notices you’re not yourself, and you’re stuck in this state of discontent, feeling like a middle schooler again.
“The song speaks to the fear that these emotions might linger longer than desired. It’s about the struggle of being honest when asked how you’re doing and admitting, ‘I don’t know these days.’ While these feelings are fleeting, in the moment, they feel all-consuming. This song is my way of confronting those emotions head-on, admitting them aloud, and finding solace in that admission.”
