Caroline Romano questions her purpose with “Born to Want More”

Date:

For those nights when you are loathing in self-pity or those days when you find yourself falling in love, Caroline Romano’s music is there to validate your feelings. She has given us those angsty, alt-rock anthems and those subdued, acoustic-driven ballads to cater to all the emotions – no matter if you are at your absolute best or complete worst. It is her natural ability to connect that makes her an engaging, inspirational artist, speaking for her peers and her younger fans through her songs. Her newest single, “Born to Want More,” is another relatable track, pinpointing the anxiety of constantly chasing after but never quite getting what you want.

An anthem full of yearning, “Born to Want More” captures the struggle of being so close yet so far from your dreams. It opens with an audio clip from The Notebook, specifically the scene where Ryan Gosling gives his legendary “What do you want?!” speech. Caroline then builds upon that moment, letting the confusion and rage and self-doubt spill into the track. Accompanied by temperate guitar strums, she sings, “Was I born to want more? / Was I made to not be made for anyone, ‘cause I’m not sure / If it’s good then it’s gone / Why do I keep holding on / To the stories I’ve been told since I was young? / What if it’s not anyone?”

Telling us more about “Born to Want More,” Caroline shares,

I wrote ‘Born to Want More’ during a time when I was grappling with a series of ‘almosts’—those moments where things felt so close but still just out of reach. This song captures that wits-end feeling where you’re wondering if you’ll ever find what you’re looking for. You’re chasing experiences and feelings that you know exist but you haven’t yet found. It’s something I know all too well. It’s by far one of my more vulnerable songs I’ve released, and it’s one of my favorites for that reason.”

“Born to Want More” is the latest single from Caroline’s upcoming EP, How the Good Girls Die. The EP, due for release in early 2025, is expected to push Caroline’s sound creatively while further bolstering her presence in the alt-pop space. Fans have already heard this through the release of previous singles “Body Bag” and “Pretty Boys.”
