When we last heard from indie pop artist Cade Hoppe, he was coming to terms with the pain he felt after a relationship came to an end. He channeled this pain into the reflective “Hurts,” and realized that breakups will always be hard on both sides. This lesson was tough to learn and accept, but in the end, it helped Cade get a better understanding of who he is and how to approach relationships in the future. Cade is still figuring things out and making music that is as powerful as ever, following up “Hurts” with the vulnerable “Morphine.”
On “Morphine,” Cade tries to process the pressure he feels on a daily basis to just exist. In his signature baritone style, Cade sings about not being able to write strong songs, not knowing how to express his love, and feeling misunderstood by those around him. It is a bittersweet listen, with the acoustic guitar and somber string accompaniment adding to his brooding thoughts. “I think your life experiences can either make you the person you always feared you’d become or the person you always hoped you’d become. By putting this song out, I hope I’m one step closer to the latter.”
