Irish native singer-songwriter Bambie Thug released their new single “REDRUM” last Friday, making it their first debut after being signed to Spinefarm Records and Universal Music Publishing Group.

Known for their dark gothic horror-esque aesthetic and coining their own music genre of “ouija-pop,” rising star Bambie Thug knows how to defy all odds in breaking music and gender barriers. Born as Bambie Ray Johnson, they rose to immediate fame in being the first non-binary artist to represent Ireland in Eurovision; an international song competition founded by the European Broadcasting Union. Finishing in 6th place with original song “Doomsday Blue,” Bambie Thug has gained a plethora of fans who are just as eccentric, bold, and unapologetic as they are.

“REDRUM” is a three-minute metalcore anthem that explores the societal rage of wanting to break down in a world where things feel obsolete. From modern political issues such as war in the Middle East and government officials demanding to strip legal and fundamental rights away from vulnerable citizens to dealing with different forms of prejudice against minorities, Bambie has created something listeners can scream along and express themselves to.

The track was produced by Shaun Lopez, composer and member of electric rock band Crosses. Bambie briefly mentions their experience working on the track together in an interview with Kerrang! Magazine. “It was a really old Sony karaoke mic,” Bambie remembers.

“I was just happy to get a really good heavy song out of [that session]. I think it’s the first time in ages I’ve been really proud of what I’ve written, which is nice.”

In wanting to find solace in a universe filled with chaos, Bambie sums up our internal thoughts perfectly.
