March is considered Women’s History Month in the United States, but honestly, why stop at March? And why only in the U.S.? Basically, every day is an opportunity to celebrate women, no matter where you are. The world would really be a different place without us, and even though progress has been made in regard to women’s rights, there is still a lot more that can be done. For now, however, we can take the time to appreciate women and feminism by taking part in the monthly book read for Dua Lipa’s Service95 Book Club. This month, the book is Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay.

Roxane Gay’s work has made the rounds over the years. Her writing has appeared in Best American Short Stories 2012, Best Sex Writing 2012, Best American Mystery Stories 2014, Oxford American, American Short Fiction, and Viriginia Quarterly—to name a few. There’s also her contributions as an opinion writer for The New York Times; her newsletter, The Audacity; and her forthcoming television and film projects. As far as her books are concerned, Gay has released The New York Times-bestsellers Hunger and Bad Feminist, the national bestseller Difficult Women, World of Wakanda for Marvel, Ayiti, and An Untamed State. Most likely, you have come across her name at some point, but if you are unfamiliar with Roxane Gay, you can easily catch up.

About Bad Feminist, Dua Lipa shares that the book is

“an essay collection that feels like a conversation with your smartest, funniest, wisest friend who’s always prepared to work things out alongside you. In some places, it’s genuinely hilarious. Others, deeply compassionate. And occasionally, totally devastating.

“If you’re wondering how it’s possible to be a feminist to your core at the same time as loving lyrically problematic songs, reality TV, and the occasional questionable romcom, congratulations, you are exactly the kind of ‘bad feminist’ Roxane Gay is talking about. And don’t be fooled by the title—‘Bad Feminist’ makes the clearest case for feminism I think I’ve ever come across. As she shows, what’s really ‘bad’ is the casual ‘trickle-down misogyny’ we deal with as women every single day. By moving effortlessly from pop culture to politics, taking in race, class, sexuality, and body image, Roxane explores how our experiences as women are as distinct as they are unifying.

“I can’t wait to read this one with you all. Bring your hot takes, your contradictions, and your best—baddest—female rants.”

Every month, the Service95 Book Club features an interview between Dua Lipa and the author, and this month is no different. You can check out the latest episode, where Dua Lipa and Roxane Gay discuss what it means to be a feminist in 2026, being friends with women vs the violence that is reported against women, and reproductive rights. On a lighter note, they also talk about the joys of being in a book club and address the rumors of a possible collab between Gay and Channing Tatum.

Additionally, book club members can find Gay’s recommended reading list and playlist, along with an essay by Gay’s mentee, Ashley C. Ford.

Later this month, a reading of Bad Feminist by Gay herself will be posted, and an additional podcast episode will go live. It will feature a Q&A moderated by Dua Lipa, where she asks Gay questions submitted by the Service95 community.
