As an artist, you never know how your creations will be received. But in Annika Catharina’s case, the rising Canadian country artist can rest assured that her debut EP, You and Me, will be worthwhile. So far, four of the project’s five singles have gone over well with fans and critics alike. For instance, “What if I,” which was the first from the EP, reached #2 on SiriusXM’s Top of the Country Radio in Canada, was added to various Spotify and Apple Music editorial playlists, and reached over 170K overall streams on Spotify. Her next two singles, “Bandit” and “Love and Hate,” surpassed these feats, each hitting #1 on SiriusXM’s Top of the Country Radio and reaching over 200K streams. The fourth single, “Dishonest,” also hit over 200K Spotify streams and served as a strong precursor to Annika’s selection as a semi-finalist in the 2025 SiriusXM top of the Country Competition and nominee for the Ray McAuley Emerging Artist Award. Now, the time has come for Annika to release the full project, complete with its newest single, “You and Me.”
The title track of this EP captures what the project is all about. We have heard about her memories and experiences with previous relationships on the earlier singles, but “You and Me” addresses these feelings head-on. Over the warm guitar strums, Annika sings, “I could change my name and number / But my heart can’t erase / That I had a whole life before I had you / Now I can’t picture my life without you.” In the end, she admits, “‘Cause if I could, I would get over you and me.”
About the EP, Annika explains,
“These songs are snapshots from past relationships that I never fully resolved. At its core, ‘You and Me’ is really about the universal feeling of love—how it lifts us up, breaks us down, and changes us. Bringing it to life let me leave the lingering memories behind and open my eyes just enough to see how far I’ve come.”
