Anberlin and Matty Mullins face betrayal on new song “High Stakes”

Date:

Anberlin, made up of vocalist Stephen Christian, guitarists Joseph Milligan and Christian McAlhaney, bassist Deon Rexroat, and drummer Nathan Young, is known for their longevity in the alt-rock scene. After Christian announced he would no longer tour full-time with the group, Matty Mullins stepped in to fill the role, helping to strengthen them and create new music. Their latest song “High Stakes” reflects on the end of a relationship.

“High Stakes” is about pain from betrayal. Through punchy percussion and powerful guitar, Anberlin and Matty Mullins share about a relationship that ended poorly because of a lack of sincerity from their partners. Lyrics such as “Deal the dealer, or play the player / Two-faced, well played / High stakes, heartbreak” show the pain this breach of trust has created, causing the relationship to fall apart.
