fanschko tackles the modern coming-of-age single “Motion Blur”

Date:

fanschko is experimenting with sound in her newest alt pop single “Motion Blur.”

Hailing from Austria, Fanny Tautscher, known as fanschko, is bringing her youth to her music. At just 20 years old, fanschko has already created a following surrounding her music with her debut single “Breath” reaching 300 thousand streams on Spotify. Just three singles in, the singer is standing out for her fresh sound.

Through distorted guitars reminiscent of The1975, cascading synths similar to Taylor Swift’s recent projects, and a Julia-Michales-meets-chloe-moriondo alto layered to capture a moody anthem, fanschko is experimenting with the boundaries of pop.

“Motion Blur” captures the essence of an early-twenties woman navigating her coming-of-age in 2024. While her career is still blooming, fanschko only picked up the guitar for the first time during the COVID-19 pandemic, a confusing time to be growing up: “Reputations / That are ruined by our generation / We’re all on our own cause we’d rather be alone.”

These sentiments continue to persist throughout her work, and are evident in this new single: “Friends that shifted away / Strangers are on their way / Tell themselves they are happy / Getting lost into space.” While also co-written and produced by Peter Schwaiger, the songwriter brings a dark irony to her storytelling: “Is it fucked up that / We’d rather die than bleed / Talking shit about people / Who have all that we need.”

Introducing dark pop through deep keys and crisp production, fanschko’s “Motion Blur” serves as an anthem for young women to fall back on.

Somewhere at the intersection between my love for music and my love for writing lies my passion for music journalism. While the title still seems silly, the ability to capture an artist's creation and share it with the world will never cease to excite me. As a psychology student, I continue to be fascinated with the underlying mechanisms of the human condition. What better way to understand the human mind if not through a person's art?
