Alternative pop singer Dela Kay has released her newest soul-searching, guitar-laced single, “Between The Lines.” Written by Kay, Rikki Jo Randall, and Nick Cozine, the song dives into a quiet war between gut instincts and self-destruction.
“When things go quiet and anxiety settles — what does your heart tell you?,” she asks. It’s about the ache that comes from choosing to stay even when the warning signs are blaring in the background — a feeling that anyone who has experienced a toxic relationship can relate to: “A little too sweet means something’s wrong / I don’t mean to freak out it’s just not / What I’ve been used to / Feeling’ useless when / You kiss me like I’m the one you want / Your tongue on my teeth but I’m in my thoughts / Just spinning and I can’t make it stop.” Sharing more about the song, she says:
“Reading ‘between the lines’ to self-soothe can sometimes turn into self-destruction. But in my case, my overthinking ended up being a strong intuition. The line between the two isn’t always easy to see.”
