sombr, the project of 19-year-old breakthrough singer-songwriter, Shane Boose — who has gained traction and support from posting music snippets on TikTok — released his long-awaited single, “undressed,” on March 21. The heart-wrenching track dives into the vulnerability of revealing yourself to someone new after moving on.
Before its release, sombr teased the chorus of “undressed” on TikTok, which successfully gained over 9.5 million views and became the most reactive teaser he’s shared so far. This TikTok strategy may seem familiar to those who witnessed sombr’s viral hit, “Caroline,” blow up on TikTok in 2020, which was ultimately released in 2022. His passionate TikTok fanbase also contributed to the success of “back to friends”—which gained 33 million Spotify streams, debuted on three Billboard charts and landed as the highest entry on Spotify’s U.S. and Global Daily charts.
On “undressed” sombr shines on a vocal and production level, layering multiple vocal tracks with raw, honest lyricism to capture the overwhelming feeling of not wanting to let go of someone who knows you too well. For sombr, losing that deep connection brings the daunting thought of rebuilding intimacy with someone new—something he finds both undesirable and haunting.
Alongside his recent musical success, sombr is touring with Daniel Seavy in the U.S. throughout March and April before joining Nessa Barrettt on her European leg in June. Keep your eyes peeled for new music by sombr!
