Holly Humberstone captivates Southampton ahead of her debut album release

Date:

Holly Humberstone releases her much anticipated debut album Paint My Bedroom Black next week, with a short run of intimate album shows in the lead up. The outstore show in Southampton, UK, hosted by Vinilo Records, had a sold out crowd that were transfixed as Holly teased a few of the new songs alongside older favourites.

The one hour set kicked off with the first two songs from the new album; a first listen of the title track and then recent single “Into Your Room”. All sounding superb as stripped back arrangements.

Highlights from the set included “Elvis Impersonators”, from the new album, not least for the story that accompanied it: Holly’s sister has moved to Japan, and she told us how weird it is that’s she’s having this completely different life now, without Holly being in it. The song is about a hilarious night out they had before she left, and yes, it included people dressed as Elvis. Another highlight, Holly’s first song release “Deep End”, a very personal song about her little sister, and her struggles with mental health, and sticking by the ones you love. Beautifully sung and very moving as an intimate acoustic performance.

Moving between electric and acoustic guitars, Holly‘s 14 songs were over way too soon. Holly has just announced a 20 date European tour, “The Holly Humberstone (this feels like the Truman) Show,” and we very much look forward to the new album, out next week.
