On their latest track “In the Way or Disappear,” producer and songwriter DD Walker delivers a stripped-back tale of heartbreak with a devastating blow to finish. Walker weaves together the nostalgia of a past relationship with the endless swirl of intrusive thoughts on what went wrong.
It’s on the nose for a track written in 15 minutes and arranged in the room where they first began making music. Walker laments in quiet fervor, and this passion is reflected back into their work ethic.
“I demoed a record’s worth of material in a couple weeks,” they admitted in a press release, “and this was the most direct and quick to finish.”
Walker’s discography toes the line between bedroom pop and rock, and their upcoming EP Night at the Arcade is expected to sharpen that edge with co-production and mixing by Andrew Maury, whose past collaborations include Post Malone, Shawn Mendes and Coin. On their previous single “White Lies,” Walker brought in drummer Josh Freese (Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails) and bassist Matt Santos (Ra Ra Riot.)
DD Walker is slated to play Sleepwalk in Brooklyn, NY on October 24, with support from Glassio. Get tickets here.
