Powerhouse singer-songwriter and producer John-Robert is back with an emotional soulful new single, “Waistbin”, which is an acronym for “what am I supposed to believe in now”.  This stellar new song from John is his first release since 2021’s “Good Company” , and his groundbreaking EP Healthy Baby Boy Pt. 1, which gained him numerous praise from millions around the world. Now he is back and better than ever, even if the song’s meaning is a rather heartbreaking one.

Heartbreak and mistrust permeate every line of John-Robert’s latest. “It’s an autobiographical betrayal story about my last relationship, he says of the song. The sense of security and safety I felt in the beginning, juxtaposed with the aftermath of finding out my partner had secretly slept with someone else. I’d put all my faith in that relationship, that when it failed, I felt lost. Begging the question, What am I supposed to believe in now if it ain’t you?

Heartbreak and betrayal, feelings many have unfortunately felt. As emotional of a song as the lyrics suggest, John-Robert does a fantastic job at telling his story and making you feel every emotion in its truest form. You can’t help but feel heartbroken along with him. He bared everything in this song and truly left no crumbs. His sultry vocals are the backbone of this track along with the soft soulful soundscape.  It all feels like a light calming breeze on a warm summer day, even though the lyrics are a strong contrast to that. Somehow he just makes heartbreak sound so beautiful. John has been on the rise ever since he first began writing music, and he is quickly becoming a generational force to be reckoned with in the industry. With this new release it’s pretty evident that 2023 will become a breakthrough year for John-Robert, and we can’t wait to see more from him.
