Madisyn Gifford embraces her flaws on “Prettiest Bitch”

Date:

By now, we are aware of the rising force that is Madisyn Gifford. Last year, the Vancouver pop artist released her debut album, I hate ur guts, a stirring project that recounts the wide array of feelings that come with a tough breakup. Madisyn expressed the doubt, the frustrations, the complexity of moving on, demonstrating her marked ability to deliver concise and compelling music that makes a true connection. It is through such tracks that she has gone on to garner over 1.2 million YouTube views, coverage from distinguishable outlets like Rolling Stone and EARMILK, and millions of streams across notable music streaming platforms. It is always nice to be accepted for who you really are, flaws and all, which is a topic we hear on Madisyn’s new single, “Prettiest Bitch.”

On “Prettiest Bitch,” Madisyn gives us more of the dark humor heard on her previous single, “Hospital Beds.” She analyzes her sweet and cynical ways, detailing the way she is perceived by others. Over a cool and confident alt-pop production, she sings, “My pride, it gets ahead of me sometimes / And I’m a lot more vain that I would like / I count my blessings every day / Then count my flaws, can’t look away.” In the end, she pushes, “Dissect me down to ugly little bits / Then look me in the eyes and tell me I’m the prettiest bitch.” You can check it out below.

About the single, Madisyn reveals,

“‘Prettiest Bitch’ is a song I wrote on my guitar last spring in a moment of contemplation. I was thinking about how I recognize myself for my flaws and everything wrong with me and still love myself anyway. I was thinking about how lovely it would be if I could just present everything wrong with me to someone on a silver platter and still have them say, ‘You know what, I love you anyway.’ That’s kind of what the song is about. At the end of the day, I feel like that’s kind of what everyone wants. You can’t feel truly seen unless the person seeing you is looking at the bad stuff too.”

You can listen to “Prettiest Bitch” on platforms like SoundCloud, Apple Music, and Spotify.
