Andy Shauf previews ‘Norm’ with the beguiling “Catch Your Eye”

After last month’s announcement of Norm with the woozy “Wasted on You”, Canadian singer-songwriter Andy Shauf has given us another taste of the album with today’s “Catch Your Eye”. “Catch Your Eye” is a soft-spoken acoustic number with twinkling synths and harmonies that lean into the strength of Shauf’s story-telling songwriting. With this album, it is a little tougher to parse out the character-driven stories that have typically fueled his music, but a charming animated video written by Shauf and animated by Mary Vertulfo details a missed connection in the grocery store — “I need to meet you / I need to catch your eye”.
