Part of Middle Part’s charm is their ability to relay deeply honest feelings in an authentic and impactful way. Their 2020 debut EP, I Wish I Was Alive, contained six tracks that showed Middle Part’s sensitive side, expressing their struggles and reflections on life. It was a poignant release, but necessary, helping to bridge the gap between an artist’s form of expression and a listener’s need to feel something. Continuing to create music in this fashion, Middle Part gives us “Harley” from their upcoming sophomore EP.
Containing numerous acoustics, drums, and ethereal guitar, “Harley” is a dreamy ride back into the 90s alternative era. Evoking a sense of longing, the track explores an artist’s sense of purpose and need for fulfillment. Despairingly, Middle Part asks, “When did I get oh so lonely?” and sings, “I want something else I can’t give myself.” You can check it out below.
Telling us more about “Harley,” Middle Part shared,
“[‘Harley’s] message touches on my struggle with being unable to provide myself with any normalcy. The refrain is that no matter how much I want this other thing [complacency], subconsciously, I’m not going to slow down or stop what I’m doing because art feed me, and is the only thing I know how to do well.”
You can listen to “Harley” on platforms like Apple Music and Spotify.
