When it comes to pop music’s modern “sad girl music” movement, English singer-songwriter Holly Humberstone stands tall as one of the genre’s most prominent trailblazers. Since making a name for herself at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Humberstone has established for herself a poignant, intricate, and incredibly charming artistry.

In 2020, Humberstone released her debut EP Falling Asleep At The Wheel, receiving immediate attention from critics and the music industry. In the years that followed, Humberstone never slowed down on releasing new music. In 2021, she shared her sophomore EP, The Walls Are Way Too Thin, and in 2023, she released her seminal debut full-length album, Paint My Bedroom Black. Humberstone shared her third EP, Work In Progress, in 2024.

Over the last six years, not only has Humberstone maintained a steady flow of new material, but she has also toured relentlessly across the globe, opening for the likes of girl in red, Olivia Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift. Now, the “Scarlett” singer prepares for the release of her sophomore full-length album, Cruel World, out April 10 via Polydor Records.

Her upcoming studio album portrays a heightened musical maturity from the artist, with singles like “Cruel World” and “To Love Somebody” showing Humerstone exploring pain, heartbreak, and love through a romantic yet bittersweet artistic lens. While her musicality interweaves tales of the messy complexity of life, Humberstone’s music comes off as effortlessly ethereal. Known for her deeply personal songwriting, Humberstone’s star power is amplified through her catchy pop hooks and unapologetic honesty.

Ahead of the release of Cruel World, she is currently wrapping up a run of shows across the U.K. Humberstone will then perform at Coachella this month before embarking on a North American tour this summer, hitting select cities like New York, Toronto, Chicago, Seattle, and more. After playing a run of festival shows throughout August, she will embark on an additional European/U.K. tour this September.
