Yellowcard has announced that their first full-length record in almost a decade will be released on October 10th via Better Noise Music. The new record, Better Days, was produced by blink-182’s Travis Barker, who also played drums on every track, and features collaborations with Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba and Avril Lavigne.
Alongside the album’s announcement, the pop-punk icons have released two new singles, “honestly i” and the title track. “Better Days” is an upbeat track that reflects on Yellowcard’s gratitude, perspective and purpose in their career journey as they navigate this new era. It has that classic 2000s pop-punk sound meshed together with a more modern twist. The song is accompanied by a fun music video that takes the viewer back to the 1980s as the members of Yellowcard perform in a Blockbuster-inspired set.
This new era for Yellowcard is all about rediscovering the freedom in making music and embracing the happiness and joy that comes with it. Lead vocalist and guitarist Ryan Key shares,
“We are focused on this chapter of our career being about happiness. This is the most fun we’ve had making a video in 20 years and we hope everyone has a smile on their face when they watch it.”
The second glimpse into Better Days is seen through “honestly i,” a punchy, uplifting track that deals with themes of letting go and being vulnerable with someone who brings out the best in you. The lines “Then when I felt your heartbeat next to mine / I never felt so alive” showcase the freeing feeling of finding someone who understands you and wants you to succeed. It’s a perfect example of how Yellowcard has redefined their art this time around, while still letting their signature sound and influences shine through.
This new record allows Yellowcard to display a revitalized and recharged version of the beloved pop-punk band that had everyone wanting to take a trip to “Ocean Avenue” in 2003. Better Days is available for pre-save/pre-order here.
