Lead vocalist of legendary rock band My Chemical Romance, Gerard Way, published a teaser of a new band called The Mock-Ups on social media this weekend, suggesting a new song is coming soon.
A collaborative post on Gauzy Records’ social media revealed a short audio clip previewing an upcoming track titled “I Wanna Know Your Name,” showcasing lyrics on screen.
This post details other members of The Mock-Ups project, including Way on vocals and bass, Michael Schulz on guitar, and The Interrupters members Aimee Allen on backup vocals, Kevin Bivona on keyboard, and Jesse Bivona on drums. The announcement was also in collaboration with Jason Klein, an artist manager at Fender, alongside Schulz.
The Mock-Ups’ 20-second clip suggests this mysterious project may be a harmonious collaboration between The Interrupters’ signature ska-punk sound and a tone reminiscent of Gerard Way’s debut solo album, Hesitant Alien (2014).
This is not the first time The Interrupters have collaborated with Gerard Way in some capacity, as their ska cover of Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” appeared in season two of The Umbrella Academy, a Netflix drama series created and co-written by Way.
The Interrupters gained international recognition for their 2018 song “She’s Kerosene,” released on their third studio album Fight the Good Fight. The single placed high on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and peaked at number one on Canadian Rock charts, and is certified gold in Canada.
The late Doug McKean is credited with engineering, suggesting that the project was in the works before the Grammy-winning engineer and music producer passed away in 2022. McKean was known for engineering and producing with My Chemical Romance on multiple projects, including albums The Black Parade (2006) and Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys (2010), and the standalone single “The Foundations of Decay” in 2022.
Gerard Way just wrapped up the North American leg of My Chemical Romance’s “Long Live” The Black Parade Tour, celebrating the band’s 4X-Platinum album, The Black Parade, and performing the work in its entirety. My Chemical Romance will continue their tour in 2026 outside of North America, including two massive UK dates at London’s Wembley Stadium in July. Remaining tour dates and tickets are available here.
While there is no official social media presence for The Mock-Ups just yet, fans can look out for more information and upcoming details of the project’s first release on Gauzy Records’ social media, @gauzyrecords.
