With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, emotions are high. The needs, the wants, the gifts—and the love, of course.
Two artists who are no strangers to love are Carín León and The Warning. He is considered a revolutionary in the Mexican music realm, as he has won two Latin GRAMMYs, an ASCAP award, and several Lo Nuestro awards. His 2023 album, Colmillo de Leche, also made it onto Billboard’s 50 Best Albums of 2023 and Rolling Stone’s list of The Spanish-Speaking Albums That Marked the Year 2023. Around the same time, The Warning was establishing themselves as a rising force in the rock band space. The Mexico-born sister trio have performed with artists like Muse, The Pretty Reckless, and Three Days Grace, have been praised by notable brands like MTV and Pepsi, and have appeared in features for Vanity Fair, Cosmopolitan, and Glamour. Their 2024 album, Keep Me Fed, only took them to new heights and sealed their status as a band to know. And last year, they released a new live album and first-ever concert film, Live From Auditorio Nacional, CDMX, which was recorded and filmed in front of a sold-out crowd of 30K fans. They ended the year by appearing on A GRAMMY Celebration of Latin Music, where they performed with Billy Idol and guitarist Steve Stevens for a unique rendition of “La Bamba” and “Twist and Shout.”
Therefore, it makes sense that Carín León and The Warning would join forces, combining their talents for a song that would set their fanbases on fire. Co-written by The Warning, Teddy Swims, Rob Grimaldi, Anton DeLost, Boy Matthews, and Neil Ormandy, “Love To Be Loved” blends rock, country, and pop in a way that pushes both artists into new territory. For Carín, this is his first collab sung entirely in English. Lyrically, the track explores a search for love, made evident in lines like, “I’m so tired of the chase / What difference does it make?” and “I don’t need my name on Forbes / If it’s all up on your lips, there ain’t nothing I would miss.” While there’s a dynamic energy between Carín León and The Warning in the verses, it is nothing compared to what we feel in the choruses. Here, the sound just explodes and the desire for love becomes intense as we hear, “I just need to be loved by you!”
Elaborating on the collab, The Warning share,
“We are so excited about this song. As a rock band, this is something completely different for us and a chance to explore new sounds. Originally co-written with Teddy Swims, the song naturally blends country, rock, and pop in a way that felt fresh and inspiring from the start. Blending musical worlds is always exciting, and working with our fellow Mexican artist Carín León made the experience even more special. It’s a collaboration that pushed us creatively and shows a new side of The Warning.”
Carín León also explains,
“I’m truly happy and excited about this collaboration with these amazing artists, The Warning, a band I deeply admire that reaffirms to me that Mexican music and Mexican rock are far from dead—they’re more present and stronger than ever. I’m also really grateful to collaborate alongside artists with such important projects for Mexican music and culture, and to be able to release this great song together. I truly hope people connect with it, appreciate it, and carry it in their hearts for a long time.”
This collab is only the start of an exciting year for The Warning. On Sunday, February 8, they will appear on the Super Bowl as the NFL Mexico special guests. They will also hit the road and perform at Lollapalooza and other festivals across Latin America. After that, they will tour with Yungblud on his ‘IDOLS The World Tour’ in the U.K. and the U.S. Tickets and more info can be found here.
