The Urban Renewal Project is a group of sixteen Los Angeles based artists with a shared passion for exploring the intersections between jazz, hip-hop, and soul. Their new single “Money (featuring) Oh No” muses on the dualistic nature of wealth. In a society that’s willing to stab each other in the back to get rich, The Urban Renewal Project asks us if the price of opulence is worth it.
“Money (featuring) Oh No” makes it rain with stark horns, slick riffs, and a vibrant cascade of vocals. With profound lyrics like, “This whole country built on free labor / Imma need more than 40 acres,” The Urban Renewal Project points out the ironies in our system. The music video captures the band on a city rooftop as their ten-piece horn section ignites the track. Interludes of cash guns and hundred dollar bills flying through the air further saturate the atmosphere. “Money (featuring) Oh No” offers provocative commentary on the ideals we strive for as a collective and asks us to think twice about our motives.
The Urban Renewal Project has captivated audiences at SXSW and the Java Jazz Festival alike. Their upcoming album Love Glory Duty Death is set for release on October 24th. “Money (featuring) Oh No” keeps the momentum rolling for The Urban Renewal Project.
