Los Angeles band The Strike has released “Famous,” an 80s-influenced pop single about valuing love and relationships over the pursuit of fame. On the new record, Chris Crabb, Jay Tibbitts, and David Maemone deliver irresistible melodies over shimmering synths and guitars – a sound they are known for.
Although “Famous” is an energetic, upbeat track, its lyrics reveal a reflective message about realizing what is truly important in life. In the pre-chorus, Crabb sings, “And I’ve run through walls / Trying to have it all / But you break my fall / So I got nothing to lose / Even if I can’t get this song onto the stations / I could be famous for loving you.”
About the meaning behind the song, the band explains:
“In the age of social media, it seems like everyone is after their 15 minutes of fame. The song asks the question: What do I want to be known for at the end of the day? Would I rather be celebrated by strangers for my belongings or my talent — or for my devotion to the people I love most? Ultimately, the song argues it’s better to be known for the latter.”
The Strike is hitting the road this summer with their No Time To Waste Tour, with stops in New York City, Chicago, Nashville, Toronto, Philadelphia, and many more. Fans can purchase tickets here.
