The Prince estate commemorates the 43rd anniversary of multi-platinum album ‘1999’

Known as one of the most iconic musicians of all time, Prince Rogers Nelson has hit another milestone in his posthumous career.

In an Instagram reel posted on an account managed by his estate, Prince and The Revolution are seen performing the track “1999”; it’s an upbeat song that blends funk, disco, and rock elements. Prince’s management commemorates this day by expressing, “On this day in 1982, Prince unleashed his groundbreaking multi-platinum album 1999, forever changing pop music. 💜.”

Reaching over 30,000 likes and receiving thousands of comments in a matter of days, fans across the world have showcased gratitude online by posting purple hearts alongside how much that album means to them. One fan by the name of @belindaarontj commented on the reel, reflecting on how times have changed over the years: “Still trying to party in 2025, despite the craziness of the world. Don’t know if I’m just being sentimental but life seems a lot more complicated now. We miss U Prince.” 

Released on Oct. 27th 1982, 1999 is Prince’s fifth studio album. It received numerous accolades, from making it on both Billboard’s Top 100 and 200 to being his first Grammy nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. Prince has created a legacy filled with momentous joy, high spirits, and unforgettable talent.
