There comes a point when you have to put your foot down and make the decision to block out the noise and live your life the way you want to live it. The Moss, an indie rock band from Salt Lake City, has done just that in their newest single, “Your Way,” in which they relay the importance of staying loyal to your own decisions while remaining cautious about how others may influence you.
With an addictive alternative/indie rock sound, The Moss is on the rise. Since the release of their four-track EP Insomnia in 2023, the band went on to release a couple singles in the last few years and returned to the scene with their new EP Free Ride in 2025.
“Your Way,” however, is a part of a bigger project: a full-length album titled Big Blue Moon out April 24, announced alongside this release. As the first single released from the album, “Your Way” sets the tone for the band’s new chapter, giving promise that the direction they’re heading in is most likely going to change lives.
With an almost muffled yet compelling drum beat, “Your Way” instantly draws you in and reunites you with the signature sound of Tyke James’ vocals accompanied by a groovy bass line. James sings “Cause there ain’t no way / I’m gonna get stuck in your way / Ain’t no way I’m gonna live my life your way” with confidence and a raw edge that has always been present in the band’s music, but this time they seem to be expanding on the new, intriguing sound they explored on Free Ride.
“Your Way” lives in a world where 60s surf-rock meets reggae, but The Moss constructs it with their own twists and turns to make it individualistic. In simple terms, this makes for a pretty groovy tune. By bringing in a theme of confrontation and an element of catchiness, “Your Way” embodies the raw talent and unique creative direction of The Moss. They’re convincing listeners that what they have in store is going to be nothing short of a soulful, immersive musical experience, encouraging us to stick around for the next chapter.
