Hailing from Alabama, The Brook & The Bluff have returned — after years of touring — to their roots with their newest rock n’ roll album, Werewolf. The album comes after a year of highs and lows for the band, including losing a band member. Across every track, it is clear the group has channeled that period of transition into a record that feels more grounded and deliberate than ever. Recorded live in Nashville, Werewolf leans into a rawer, more guitar-driven sound, capturing the restless energy of a band rediscovering who they are and what they want to say next.

The title track opens the album with heavy, boogie-type riff that sets the stage for what listeners can expect to hear. It is a punchy, guitar-driven opener that immediately establishes the album’s grittier tone, leaning into swagger and momentum rather than the smoother polish the band has sometimes favored in the past. In true B&B fashion, the fun sound disguises the less positive lyrics, as lead singer Joseph Settine sings, “Run away from this nightmare, darling / You ain’t gonna wanna see me like this / Looking back is a fool’s run, darling.”

“Super Bowl Sunday” was the first single released from the album back in November, and is certainly becoming a fan favorite for good reason. The track blends the band’s laid-back groove with a punch of bright guitars and an anthemic chorus, making it one of the most immediately catchy moments on the record, while still holding onto the deprecating lyrics fans should expect at this point, “Am I just waiting for the end times? / The world is burning, I’m just inside / Or do I wanna see the sunrise? / Paid off ’cause I can never sleep right.”

The final track perfectly closes out the album. Anchored by a simple acoustic guitar and Joseph Settine’s soft vocals, the song carries the quiet warmth of a late-night goodbye. Compared to the heavier, more driving sound that defines much of Werewolf, it’s disarmingly simple, but that restraint is exactly what makes it work. Like the final scene of a long night, “Moving Along” settles the dust and lets the album exhale, sliding neatly into place as the last piece of the story.

Werewolf is a fun album, perfect for blaring on warm spring and summer days with the windows down, which is easily what the jam band was going for. But beneath the easygoing grooves and road-trip-ready riffs, there’s a quiet emotional weight running through the record. Each song carries the imprint of its lyricists, grounding the album’s breezy surface with moments of reflection that ultimately push it across the finish line.

Werewolf is out now.

The Brook & The Bluff hit the road later this month for their U.S. tour, with supporting from Cassandra Coleman and Ethan Tasch for select dates. Tickets are on sale here.
